A collection of select solos from recordings ranging between 1968 to 1985.Todd's earliest guitar inspirations leading up to his recordings with NAZZ were mostly 60's era blues and Anglo - Beatles, The Who, Yardbirds, Hendrix, Cream, Michael Bloomfield (Paul Butterfield Blues Band) You'll definitely hear those influences throughout his earliest NAZZ, solo artist and Utopia recordings. My appreciation of Todd has long been what can best be described as a frustrated love affair. My earliest introduction was the pop masterpiece Something/Anything, with a particular fondness for side four's collection of visiting musicians lending a hand for the smoking live studio recordings. The following AWATS and Todd were, to my ears, a dramatic change from the Todd Rundgren I had initially come to love, but I eventually embraced them as well. Side two of Utopia, Initiation and Faithful were difficult to absorb for a long time. Loved RA, but then was disappointed with Oops at first, eventually finding enough to embrace. Didn't much care for Adventures In Utopia, with the few bright spots being the contributions of the other Utopia band members. So as you can see, this is a pattern. I've had the same frustrated affair with Todd's live performances, and particularly his guitar soloing. Over the dozen or so times I've seen him live with and without Utopia beginning in 1977, I've rarely been wowed by his guitar soloing, which often sounded sloppy and uninspired to me. A hit and miss experience at best. Where he has shined are his many recorded guitar parts and solos. Many of them are flat out brilliant. This is a collection of some of those recorded solos.
